Flashlight tag

What do you do with a yard full of kids, a handful of flashlights, and a day that has turned into night? Flashlight tag of course! We've been playing all week in the evenings and having a blast. And I do mean we, Jimmy and I. In fact, I have come to the conclusion that I need to get more exercise just so I can keep up with them. They wear us out! Jimmy swears he pulled a muscle in one of his calves the other night. Couldn't have been but so bad because he got back out there last night. It seems we have a lot more kids in the neighborhood recently. This back section where we are is usually filled with kids in the afternoons and I love it! My girls have been having a blast. So, for those of you with kids, pull out those flashlights and play a game of tag with your kids. When it's time to put them to bed, you'll thank me for it!

Can you smell it?

Fall I mean. Maybe it's me, but the warm summer nights are slowly sneaking off while the cool crisp air which belongs to autumn is taking it's place. We've been wearing jeans and t-shirts for the past few days and requesting jackets in the evenings. This time of the year has a very familiar scent, one that brings me back many years. It's whatever they are harvesting this time of the year....peanuts maybe. You know how a certain aroma brings back memories, or maybe not even a memory but when you were a certain age? This time of the year always brings me back. I can almost smell the pumpkins and the mums. I do love fall.

School

School is going well. The first week was pretty rough, but now that we've been at it for a few weeks everything is much better now. I think it took us all some getting use to. Leah joins us for stories and crafts, but for the most part she does stuff like build tents all over the living room while we work. She just gets everything ready for her and her sisters to play with when school is over (or during break time). This is a picture of our living room. Leah dragged all the chairs in there by herself and set up the blankets. They couldn't wait for school to be over that day!

Our meal time prayer, recited by my 3 year old

Before every meal we get all things quiet and bless our food. The girls generally want to say the prayers and a lot of times they say it together, but every now and again they just take turns saying it alone. They like to recite an old classic that I'm sure many many children learn. But maybe they haven't learned it quite like Leah. This is it in her words, "God is great. God is good. Let us thank Him for this food. By His hands we all are fed. Give us Lord our jelly bread. Amen."

Laid back weekend...finally!

Because of the storm, I wasn't called to work this weekend. I did, however, get a call from someone who cleans who was called and she asked me to help her. But, I was already in the frame of mind that I finally had a free Saturday (with no kids mind you) so I told her no. So Friday night I dropped my girls off at my sister's for a sleepover and went home to work on school stuff, then off to bed. Saturday my sister and I decided that she would bring my girls home that afternoon and her and her girls would stay the night since Jimmy was working. I did not get out of my pj's all day!! I watched two movies before my sister brought the girls home, and then my sister and I watched two more. I loved it!! I haven't done that in sooo long. It was a much needed relaxing Saturday. Today was pretty much back to normal....church, lunch, and a birthday party. But that was all fun stuff!
