Turtle Cake

I made this turtle cake for a man who requested a green turtle with a pink bow. Since the Wizard of Oz cake, I've had a good amount of cake orders. My next order is for a two tiered ballerina cake. I kind of have some ideas, but I'm still thinking. She wants it to be very girly. This will be a fun one!

Rainy Monday

We were planning on going fishing today. In fact, they've been talking about going fishing today since the end of last week. Well wouldn't you know it was raining. What to do, what to do? I had heard of this place called Imagination Station in Wilson, so we decided to check it out. I had never been to Wilson before and was quite impressed with the size. They had a lot of businesses...Walmart, Target, Lowes, Home Depot, Marshall's, Ross, etc. I had no idea! Anyway, we made it to the Imagination Station. It's a hands on science center for children. The girls had a great time. Upstairs they had some reptiles, turtles, snakes, lizards, and some kind of dwarf alligator. That one was pretty scary. He was little, but you could hear him hiss and he would jump towards you and hit the glass in his aquarium. After I had walked away, Rebecca said, "mommy, that thing is still staring at you." And sure enough, he was and he was kind of freaking me out. After we left we went out to eat at an italian restaurant. Neat little place, and the food was pretty good. (I still like Napoli's pizza better though) Then we just headed home. We made the best of this rainy Monday.

New job training

I had to go to the beach this weekend to train. It went well. One of my concerns when I start is finding the houses. In some of those areas you get turned around and they all start looking alike. I am definitely not good at directions, so I am a bit nervous about this. My other concern is that we are supposed to start sometime during the middle of May, and it wasn't until tonight that I realized the girls recital will be in the middle of May also. I hope they don't want us to start the same day. They seem like they will be really good to work for, and if a problem comes up or you just need the day off, they said to just let them know as much in advance as possible. But I hate to ask off for our very first day. aagghh!!!

Saturday

Saturday morning and part of Saturday afternoon I did Bentlee's Wizard of Oz cake. The rest of the day was spent cleaning the mess the kids made while I was preoccupied! I enjoyed doing this cake, and it is the best I have done so far. I was really glad to be done with it though b/c I was tired of Dorothy staring at me everday! (I hear she won't be staring at much of anything these days b/c Shelley decapitated her!) Poor Dorothy! :0( he he Shelley caused me to have a big head when she called to compliment me on the cake and let me know that everyone loved it. I was thrilled!!! I'm glad Bentlee enjoyed it and had a great birthday.

Pictures from the zoo

Friday was Rebecca's first ever field trip! We went to the zoo in Norfolk. My favorites were the elephants and the giraffes.

Update on Sammy

Well...she seems to be back to normal, chasing away cars and neighbors and wanting to play ball again. Will she ever learn??!! Jimmy ended up having to work over yesterday and is at work this morning, so we haven't taken her to the vet. He told me last night that she has one or two of these a year. How come I didn't know this???? Poor Sammy, she might need to be on anti-seizure medicine. Yesterday, before all of this happend, Leah (whose 3) and Abigail (whose 2) were playing and Leah decided to bite Abigail. (Yes, she is still a bit of a biter) Well, yesterday afternoon on our way to dance, Leah said to Abigail, "Abby, tell your mommy that Sammy is sick." Abby said, "No, I'm going to tell my mommy that you bit me." I thought that was pretty funny. And the day before that, Abby wanted something Leah had and asked for it in a pretty ugly way. So I said to her, "Abigail, how about next time maybe say please." Abby looked at me and said, "Well maybe next time I will." Can you say GROWN???!!!

Scary morning

We have an eight year old chocolate female lab named Sammy. A couple of years ago she suffered a heart attack and has aged a lot since then. She is an outsided dog, the best guard dog ever, and loves to play fetch with golf balls. Jimmy likes to go outside and hit golf balls while she retrieves them. Well, ever since her heart attack, we have to be careful about how many balls she retrieves. This morning Leah, my niece Abigail and I were taking a walk. All the while we were throwing the golf ball for Sammy. Mind you, we didn't walk very far, just around our small block. But as soon as we got home she started having seizures. This is so scary to watch. I felt so helpless. She couldn't walk, could barely stand, she kept falling sideways until she went into a full seizure. I was really scared. Sammy is soooo good with kids, but when any dog is sick you never know how they will act. So I rushed the girls in the house just in case. Leah was scared and crying, as was I. I went back out to Sammy to comfort her. I thought she was getting better, but I was wrong. She started again. This time before the seizure she was walking crazy all over the place. I called Jimmy crying, not knowing really what to do. He told me that she was as scared as I was, for me to stay calm and try to get her to drink some water. He said that she needed to calm down, drink and rest and she will be fine. I guess he knew what he was talking about because she is finally resting on our porch and acting pretty normal. I know she is not 100% yet because a car went by a little while ago and she didn't even bark. Hopefully she will continue to rest until she is better. It's really pittiful to see her like this. Jimmy is going to take her to the vet later. Maybe that will help.

And the winner is....

Family Photo Album!! Congratulations photos, family memories have proved to be a winner in the hearts of our voters. There was, however, one vote for the duffel bag full of 100's. Not sure what this person was thinking, maybe that they could make new memories with the money. But as most of our 11 voters know, there is not enough money in the world to recreate the memories of the past. So, congratulations Family Photo Album, you will always be my first choice over money! (stay tuned for the next survey to come)

My Cakes & Cookies

OK...so I've been told that I should post some of the cakes I've made recently. I have made a majority of my girls cakes for their birthdays and have loved doing it. But it wasn't until recently that I discovered I might actually be good at it. I still need lots of practice, I must admit, but it's fun making them. My favorite part is the finished product. When I start on a cake I have a certain vision in my head. And while I'm working on the cake, people around me cannot vision the same thing because it hasn't yet come together. But when it's done, everyone can see what I've been seeing all along. I love that part! I've also been doing "cookie bouquets", and these are pretty fun too.

Looking for desks

Hi all...I know this isn't a classified paper, but I thought that I would put this out there in case someone could help. I am looking for two school desks (old or new, I don't care). We have one and need two more so all the girls can have one. We are planning on home schooling next year, so this summer I need to get the room set up for us. They could all do their work at a table together, but for the sake of "she's looking at my paper" or "she's sitting too close" I think we will use desks. So, if anyone around knows where one is, please let me know. Thank you!!

Great Kite Flying Day!

The wind was blowing just right for us to fly our Dora kite! Leah and I searched for our kite this morning and headed outside. She had a pretty good time trying to fly it. So, of course, the first thing we had to do this afternoon when the kids got home was pull the kite out again. They really enjoyed it. Especially Hannah. The last picture is of her falling on the ground laughing because the kite took a nose dive and struck me on the top of my head. She found that quite amusing!

I Love Pictures

I'm no scrapbooker, but I sure do love pictures. I love taking them, but before the digital days, I stunk at getting them developed. I'm so bad that I would take film (a ton at a time) and when I got the pics back they dated back a year or so. Because of that, my photo albums are wayyyyy out of order. I have pictures from my oldest celebrating her 2nd birthday to my youngest being born and back to my middle one's 1st birthday! That's pretty bad. And I need to go back through them all and write on the back who is who, b/c honestly there are some I can't tell. If my albums were in order that would not be a problem. No need for you scrapbookers to comment b/c I have no time to do it! I just thought I would vent my frustration with myself.

I got it!!!

Well good people, I got the job! Yay!!! I'm really excited about this. My middle daughter, Rebecca, was concerned with me going to work. She said, "What do you mean a job interview? You're going to work? Well who will watch us? When will you go?" And on and on. I told her it was only one day a week and she would either be home with daddy, grandma, her aunt, or sometimes a sitter. I think she will be ok with it. It will break up the week a little and give them someone new to look at all day!

Wish me luck...

I haven't worked outside of the home in almost seven years, and tomorrow I have an interview!! I just found this out. I didn't apply for a major job, but it's something I can do every Saturday during the summer. And since I'm home everyday with the kids and they will be out of school, working one day is great for me. I'm excited about the possibility of generating a little extra income for us during the summer months. Maybe this year we will be able to have some money saved up to finance our fall plans and to spend some on Christmas. (I know that is forever away...but you have to plan early!) However, I'm trying not to get too excited because they said they had a lot of interviews tomorrow. So, please, wish me luck!!

Last year for Mommy and Me

Well, my last year in the Mommy and Me class at dance is coming quickly to an end. Mommy and Me is a dance class that starts at the age of two. Since two is pretty young for children to dance alone, the moms (and sometimes dads) take this class with their child for their first year. My very first dance class ever was with my then 2 1/2 year old daughter Hannah (I was 28!). We danced our little hearts out! The next year was my little Rebecca's turn at the tender age two. She turned two right about the time dance started. She was such a calm little dancer. Fast forward three years, and now we have Leah (who just turned 3) and I. We have two recitals each year, and our second for the year is coming in May. Which means I won't be a ballerina anymore with my little girls...at least not an official one. And I don't know if I am happy or sad or maybe just a little of both. I'm happy because this will be the last year I have to go on stage and point posse (sp?) in front of everyone. But I am going to miss the time that I spend in class with my little girl. I wasn't so sad with the first two b/c I knew there was a chance I'd be there again. But this time I know this is it. I think it's more the fact that I know this era of my life is coming to a close, and that is what is making me sad. They are growing way too fast, and I want it to slow down. I need to hang a yellow caution light up to remind me to slow down and just take it all in.
